One of the questions that most often crops up when we receive enquiries about portraits, is 'When is the best time to bring my baby in for photos?'
Whilst any time at all is great, there are key milestones that often produce the most memorable images. We'll try to cover this along with other mustn't miss photo opportunities in this new blog series... so do keep checking back!
Newborn Photography
Newborn photography to us at least, is all about the sleepy shots. Yawns and stretches and tucked into a hammock, or basket, wrapped up snug or showing baby's soft, transparent skin.
Don't expect to much in the way of smiles. You have the rest of baby's life to capture grins and giggles, so this first photo session is more about cosy, contented cuddles.
Simple clothes work best... or none at all. Fancy clothes though they look great on, can make your little one look uncomfortable in pictures. Baby looks best in just a nappy, swathed in blankets, or in plain coloured babygro.
Like with any session, its great to personalise your photos with toys or props of your own. We have plenty here, but a small bear or comforter belonging to your baby when included in the images will serve as a reminder of those early days for years to come.
The best time for this session?
As early as possible. Baby should look tiny and new; the first four weeks is definitely the time for these images, though within the first two is ideal. Parents should definitely be involved in these photos too, we know you're not feeling your most glamorous having just had a baby and plenty of sleepless nights... but lit and composed well, in years to come, you'll be so proud of these precious shots of your family all together at such a special time.
